Researchers are investigating the use of a 1726-nm diode laser to treat hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic skin condition causing painful lumps, abscesses, and tunnels typically in areas like the armpits and groin. This condition starts around hair follicles, which become blocked and inflamed, leading to new lesions. The study focuses on adults with mild to moderate HS (Hurley stage I-II) and aims to determine if this laser can safely reduce inflammatory lesions compared to a sham treatment. Participants will receive three treatment sessions at Weeks 0, 4, and 8, where one side of their body will be treated with the active laser and the other side with a sham procedure. Follow-up visits occur at Weeks 12, 16, and 24, during which participants continue their stable HS medications. The laser targets sebaceous glands within hair follicles, aiming to reduce lesion formation without ablating tissue. Throughout the study, researchers will monitor changes in lesion counts and pain levels, focusing on the percent change in abscess and inflammatory nodule counts at Week 16. Secondary outcomes include response scores, quality of life, flare rates, antibiotic use, and safety. Participants will also undergo standardized photography and may opt into a biopsy study. The total study duration includes treatment and follow-up periods, with attention to adherence and safety.
