Researchers are evaluating a firearm safety prevention program designed specifically for families living in rural areas who have children. The study aims to see if this intervention can improve how firearms are stored in households, potentially reducing firearm injuries. The program focuses on families residing in Michigan's Upper Peninsula who currently have firearms on their property. The intervention, called Store Safely, is delivered online and is self-guided. Participants complete a series of steps including watching brief videos, reviewing data infographics, using a decision aid, and creating a Family Firearm Storage Action Plan. There is also an optional resource page with information on local safe storage device options. Participants confirm completion of each step through checkboxes, which helps track engagement. During the study, researchers will measure the number of firearms stored locked and assess parent engagement in safe firearm storage behaviors approximately three months after starting the program. Participants will complete surveys about their household storage practices and their involvement with the intervention. The study lasts about three months and includes monitoring of how families use the safety strategies provided.
