Researchers are investigating whether a cultural nutritional program can reduce stroke risk factors and vascular cognitive decline among members of the Oneida Nation. The study also aims to understand how culturally appropriate school nutrition education can improve health knowledge. This study involves individuals aged 7 to 85 years who receive healthcare through the Oneida Comprehensive Health Division. Participants will engage in health wellness coaching focusing on cultural nutrition. Those aged 7 to 17 living with an adult guardian will complete a nutritional knowledge questionnaire, while adults aged 18 to 85 will also participate in the program. The study includes carotid ultrasounds, cognitive testing, blood work, and school-based nutritional education programs designed to improve knowledge about healthy Native American food choices. During the one-year study, participants will undergo assessments including carotid ultrasound, cognitive tests, health evaluations, and blood work. Researchers will monitor changes in stroke incidence, blood pressure, body mass index, cognitive scores, acculturation, and nutritional knowledge. The study aims to provide insights into how culturally tailored nutrition programs can impact health outcomes within this community.
