Researchers are evaluating the Vietnamese Self Help Plus (vSH+) stress management program among female breast and gynecologic cancer patients in Viet Nam. Psychological distress is common in these patients but often goes undetected due to clinical workload. This trial is a 2-arm, parallel, single-blind randomized controlled study aiming to pilot and assess the vSH+ intervention's potential effectiveness compared to enhanced usual care. The study also includes qualitative evaluations of acceptability and feasibility for future scaling. The vSH+ intervention consists of four 75-minute sessions teaching five core stress management skills. Healthcare workers act as lead facilitators, with cancer survivors serving as peer co-facilitators. Participants are randomized to either the vSH+ program or enhanced usual care and attend an in-person informational session where consent is obtained. Surveys to measure outcomes are conducted at baseline during the info session, then by phone at 1-2 weeks post-intervention and again at 3 months. Participants undergo assessments including depression and anxiety severity measured at baseline, 1 month, and 3 months. Additional qualitative interviews and focus groups are conducted with patients, healthcare workers, and caregivers to evaluate satisfaction and feasibility. This comprehensive approach allows monitoring of mental health changes and gathers feedback for improving and expanding the intervention model over the study period.
