Magnetic Seizure Therapy for Psychotic Disorders
Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Meets diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia or other primary psychotic disorders according to DSM-5
- Age between 18 and 55 years
- Positive And Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) score of 60 or higher
- Able to provide informed consent
You will not qualify if you...
- Have a severe medical illness
- Are pregnant or intend to get pregnant during the study
- History of substance dependence or abuse within the past three months
- History of traumatic brain injury with a screening scale score of 7 or above
- History of poor response to electroconvulsive therapy or MST
- Probable dementia or significant neurological disorder, or conditions like cerebral aneurysm
- Medical conditions, medications, or lab anomalies that could cause psychotic symptoms or cognitive impairment
- Have an intracranial implant or metal object near the head that cannot be safely removed
- Score of 18 or more on the 24-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D)
- Require immediate ECT treatment due to dangerous symptoms such as suicide risk, stupor, or agitation
