Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Age 18 to 85 years
  • GERD patients with regurgitation and supra-esophageal symptoms
  • GERD patients without supra-esophageal symptoms and regurgitation
  • Asthma patients with intermittent, mild persistent, moderate persistent, or severe persistent asthma, without acute exacerbation
  • Diagnosis based on American Gastroenterological Association and Montreal definitions of GERD
  • SERD patients on long-term acid suppressive therapy with persistent regurgitation and supra-esophageal symptoms, screened by Reflux Symptom Index > 13
  • Barrett's esophagus patients diagnosed histologically by previous endoscopic biopsy
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Age under 18 or over 85 years
  • Active alcohol or drug abuse
  • History of ear, nose, throat, or pulmonary diseases suspected to be induced by GERD
  • History of head and neck cancer or chemo-radiation therapy to the head and neck
  • Unable to give consent
  • Pregnant women
  • Allergy to lidocaine used in nasal anesthesia
  • Allergy to green food dye
  • Asthma patients currently experiencing an acute asthma exacerbation with breathlessness, wheezing, or chest tightness
