Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Adult patients 18 years of age or older undergoing primary liver transplant
- Ascites-adjusted body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m2 or higher
- Acceptable graft function with total bilirubin level less than 5 mg/dL and patent hepatic artery, hepatic veins, and portal veins confirmed by doppler ultrasound
You will not qualify if you...
- Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) not meeting Milan criteria based on explant histology
- Untreated vascular complications or biliary strictures after transplant
- Multi-organ transplantation
- Urine protein excretion of 2.0 g/day or more
- Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus with HbA1c greater than 10%
- Medical conditions incompatible with nutritional intervention, including fat intolerance, neurological, psychiatric, or endocrine disorders
- Active eating disorders such as bulimia nervosa or anorexia nervosa
- History of bariatric surgery
- Pregnancy or planning pregnancy within the next year
