The purpose of this study is to use MRI images using the OS-CMR technique to view the differences in the hearts of healthy volunteers and participants with a condition called Metabolic Syndrome. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 18 to 80 years
- Ability to give informed consent
- For patients: Diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome with at least 3 characteristics (abdominal obesity, high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, high blood pressure, high fasting glucose)
- For healthy volunteers: No known significant medical problems affecting the cardiovascular or respiratory system
- For healthy volunteers: No smoking
You will not qualify if you...
- Standard MRI contraindications
- Presence of pacemakers, defibrillating wires, implanted defibrillators, intracranial aneurysm clips, or metallic foreign bodies in the eyes
- Known or suspected pregnancy
- Consumption of caffeine (coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, energy drinks) within 12 hours before the exam
