Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 18 years or older
- Both males and females
- Diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Best-corrected visual acuity of 20/400 or better
- Center-involved diabetic macular edema with central macular thickness between >250 and <700 micrometers measured by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography
- Any level of non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy or proliferative diabetic retinopathy with adequate panretinal photocoagulation and no signs of active disease based on fluorescein angiography
You will not qualify if you...
- Having only one functioning eye (monocular)
- Chronic renal failure or history of renal transplant due to diabetic nephropathy
- Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level greater than 10%
- Presence of vitreomacular traction syndrome
- Presence of epiretinal membrane
- Panretinal photocoagulation within 4 months prior to treatment
- Intraocular surgery within 6 months prior to treatment, including cataract or vitreoretinal surgery
- Presence of rubeosis iridis
- Severe glaucoma
- High-risk proliferative diabetic retinopathy
- Poor pupil dilation
- Increased foveal avascular zone
- Any condition that could interfere with optical coherence tomography measurements or visual acuity
