Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Patients undergoing vitroretinal surgery under general anaesthesia
  • Patients undergoing brain surgery under general anaesthesia
  • Patients requiring sedation in intensive care unit
  • ASA physical status classification of 1 to 3
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • ASA physical status classification greater than 3
  • Body mass index (BMI) over 35
  • Drug addiction
  • Use of psychotropic medicines
  • Use of opioid analgesics, including tramadol
  • Severe psychiatric disease
  • Central nervous system disease except for the surgery reason
  • Arrhythmia affecting or preventing measurements (e.g., chronic atrial fibrillation)
  • Recent use of benzodiazepines
