AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

Colorectal cancer that spreads to the peritoneum, the lining of the abdomen, is the second most common site of recurrence and leads to severe symptoms and shorter survival. This research focuses on understanding the biology of colorectal cancer peritoneal metastases (CRPM), including how genetic mutations evolve and affect treatment and survival outcomes. The study aims to identify new biomarkers and treatment strategies by analyzing cancer cells and their environment. The study involves analyzing archived tissue samples taken during routine surgery from patients who previously had cytoreductive surgery for CRPM. These tissue samples include both the original colorectal cancer and the peritoneal metastases. Advanced laboratory techniques will be used to examine the genetic profiles and mutation patterns in these tissues, comparing primary tumors to metastatic sites to understand changes during the spread of cancer. Participants will have their archived tumor tissues analyzed, and researchers will collect data on clinical outcomes such as treatments received and survival. The main outcome measured is the proportion of genetic mutations over 24 months. This study hopes to improve personalized treatments and predict treatment success, ultimately enhancing patient quality of life and survival.
