Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Signed informed consent by mother for herself and infant
  • Mother willing to comply with all study procedures and available for full study duration
  • Infant born at 37.0 to 42.0 weeks gestation
  • Infant birth weight between 3rd and 97th percentile for gestational age and sex
  • Mother is biological mother both genetically and gestationally
  • Mother is the legal guardian
  • Mother is full-time custodial guardian
  • Infant has fed at least 2.0 ounces from a bottle or mother plans to do so before first artificial nipple task
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Mother has limited English proficiency
  • Participation in another study involving treatments or interventions on emotion, attachment, eating behavior, diet, or growth
  • Mother younger than 18 years at consent
  • Child has significant medical problems affecting eating, growth, or development
  • Mother has significant medical problems such as cancer or lupus
  • Mother or infant taking medications affecting biological measures (e.g., steroids)
  • Family lives more than 1.5 hours driving distance from University of Michigan
  • Family plans to move beyond 1.5 hours driving distance before study ends
  • Child is a twin, triplet, or other multiple gestation
  • Significant pregnancy complications for mother or infant
  • Significant perinatal complications for mother or infant
  • Participants must enroll in all parts of the Mother-Baby study
