Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 40 years or older
- Self-reported physician diagnosis of COPD
- Spirometry confirmed airway obstruction with FEV1/FVC ratio less than 0.7
- Tobacco exposure of 10 or more pack-years of regular cigarette smoking
- Former smoker for at least 6 months (does not include e-cigarette use)
- COPD Assessment Test score of 10 or higher, or a modified Medical Research Council dyspnea scale score of 2 or higher, or history of moderate/severe exacerbation in past 12 months
You will not qualify if you...
- Living in settings other than home (e.g., nursing home or long-term care)
- Other chronic lung diseases except asthma
- Life expectancy less than one year or receiving hospice care
- Spending more than 2 months per year away from home or planning to move in next 12 months
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Currently using an air cleaner at home (unless willing to stop use)
- Unable to physically bring air cleaners (about 15 pounds each) into home
- Unable to complete study protocol or likely lacking internet connectivity
- Participating in another interventional clinical trial
