What this Trial Is About

Researchers are conducting a large prospective cohort study called the ChiTwiMC Cohort to investigate serious complications and adverse outcomes related to twin pregnancies in China. The study aims to follow twin maternal-child pairs from early pregnancy through neonatal periods and into early childhood. This research is supported by the National Key Research and Development Program of China and led by experts at Peking University Third Hospital. The study plans to enroll 2,000 pregnant women aged 18 to 45 years with twin pregnancies before 14 weeks of gestation. Participants will receive regular follow-up visits at 22-28 weeks, 30-38 weeks, delivery, and postpartum at 42 days, 6 months, and 12 months. During these stages, researchers will collect detailed clinical data and biological samples including blood, hair, cervicovaginal secretions, placenta tissue, amniotic fluid, umbilical cord blood, meconium, infant buccal mucosa, and paternal blood. Participants will provide information on demographics, medical and reproductive history, clinical diagnoses, treatments, and pregnancy and birth outcomes through an electronic system. The study will monitor rates of complications such as preterm delivery, preeclampsia, twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, fetal growth restriction, brain injury, and early childhood developmental delays. Children's growth measurements will also be tracked within the first year after birth. This observation will continue through delivery and the first year postpartum to gather comprehensive maternal and child health data.
