Observational Study on Biomarker-Guided Treatment for Adults with Newly Diagnosed Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in Community Settings

Researchers are studying patients with newly diagnosed non-small cell lung cancer NSCLC, including early stage, locally advanced, and metastatic forms, who have not yet received treatment. This observational study aims to understand how biomarker testing is used in community cancer care, the barriers to testing, and how test results influence treatment choices. The study focuses on real-world outcomes and aims to improve biomarker testing rates to guide therapy decisions more effectively across diverse practice settings. The study does not involve experimental treatment but follows patients as they receive standard care, including biomarker testing and systemic therapy as recommended by their healthcare providers. Participants are enrolled within 30 days of starting systemic therapy and their clinical journey is monitored over time. The study will track the type and timing of biomarker tests, the treatments selected based on these tests, and reasons why testing or biomarker-directed therapy may not be done. Participants will have their medical records reviewed and data collected regarding their cancer diagnosis, biomarker testing, treatment plans, and outcomes for up to five years after enrollment. Researchers will measure the proportion of patients receiving biomarker test results before treatment, compare single-gene tests to comprehensive biomarker testing, and identify barriers to testing. Practice characteristics and patient care patterns in community settings will also be evaluated to provide insights into improving lung cancer management.
