Study Investigating Myokines as Markers and Contributors to Muscle Loss in People with Metabolic and Endocrine Diseases

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying the prevalence of sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity in people with metabolic and endocrine diseases. The study also aims to explore the role of myokines, which are molecules produced by muscles, as possible markers or contributors to these muscle conditions. This observational study is led by Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc- Universit Catholique de Louvain. Participants receive treatments such as GLP-1 receptor agonists or GLP-1GIP dual agonists as part of their usual care for overweight or obesity. These treatments are not experimental but are monitored to understand their relationship with muscle loss and metabolic conditions over a long period. During the study, participants will be observed from February 2026 to December 2056. Researchers will measure the prevalence of sarcopenia, sarcopenic obesity, and related liver conditions. Blood samples will be collected to assess myokine levels and expression. The study involves ongoing monitoring of participants health and muscle status throughout these years.
