Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Be over 18 years old
- Speak English as your primary language
- Have an informant who can provide an independent evaluation of your functioning
- Have a progressive speech impairment with evidence of Apraxia of Speech documented by a speech-language pathologist
- Have speech that is clear enough for a confident diagnosis of Apraxia of Speech, dysarthria, or aphasia, and for acoustic analysis
You will not qualify if you...
- Speech not clear enough for a confident speech-language diagnosis
- Having other illnesses that cause speech problems, such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, or developmental syndromes
- Meeting criteria for another neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer's dementia
- Having aphasia or dysarthria without Progressive Apraxia of Speech, or if these are more severe than PAOS at study entry
- Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or possibly pregnant without a recent pregnancy test before DaTscan
- MRI contraindications such as metal in the head, pacemaker, severe claustrophobia, or brain structural abnormalities
- Being medically unstable or taking medications affecting brain structure or metabolism
- Not having an informant or not consenting to participate
