The study includes monitoring cognitive status to exclude dementia and uses screening to ensure participants can safely undergo MRI scans. The findings may help improve evaluation tools and treatment targets for PD by focusing on SCAN-related brain networks.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Clinical diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease for PD participants
  • Must be 40 years of age or older
  • For healthy controls: normal neurological exam and cognition
  • No first-degree relatives with Parkinson's Disease for healthy controls
  • Both male and female participants
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Any neurological disorder other than Parkinson's Disease
  • Significant head injury with loss of consciousness over 5 minutes or neurological effects
  • Psychiatric disorders including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or epilepsy
  • Serious medical conditions such as end-stage organ failure or ongoing cancer treatment
  • Cognitive impairment including dementia or low cognitive test scores
  • MRI contraindications such as metal implants, claustrophobia, or weight over 300 lbs
