Impact of Neuropathic Pain on Self-Care and Quality of Life in Adults with Type II Diabetes

Diabetes Mellitus DM is a common metabolic disease characterized by high blood sugar due to insufficient or absent insulin hormone. A frequent complication in DM patients is diabetic neuropathy, which can affect peripheral nerves and cause symptoms like numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, and pain. This pain often worsens at night and negatively impacts daily activities, mood, and overall quality of life. This observational study involves patients diagnosed with Type II Diabetes who visit an Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic. Researchers will collect information through face-to-face interviews using several tools including the Diabetes Quality of Life Scale, Self-Care Agency Scale, Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs Self-Assessment Scale, and Visual Analog Scale. Data collection is scheduled on weekdays from 900 AM to 400 PM. Participants will provide informed consent before joining. Participants will share details about their health, diabetes management, and neuropathic pain experiences during interviews. Researchers will measure neuropathic pain and its severity, quality of life, and self-care ability using validated scales between December 15, 2024, and July 30, 2025. The study aims to understand how neuropathic pain affects self-care and life quality in Type II diabetic patients.
