Study of New Monoclonal Antibody Treatment for BK Virus Infection in Adults

Researchers are investigating new ways to prevent and treat BK virus BKV infection, which negatively affects transplant recipients. Since there are currently no specific antiviral treatments for BKV, this study aims to explore novel therapeutic approaches based on monoclonal antibodies. The study is observational and seeks to better understand these antibodies ability to neutralize different BKV genotypes. The study will focus on isolating monoclonal antibodies and evaluating their capacity to neutralize all three known BKV genotypes over a period of five years. No specific treatments or interventions are being administered as part of this observational study. Instead, the research aims to collect relevant data on these antibodies and their potential role in combating BKV infection. Participants will be adults who have tested positive for BK virus infection and agree to participate in research. The study involves monitoring and assessing the neutralizing ability of the isolated monoclonal antibodies against BKV. Researchers will measure this primary outcome over a five-year follow-up period. There are no treatment visits or drug administrations, but ongoing observation and data collection will take place during the study timeframe, which lasts until December 2025.
