Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Diagnosis of cirrhosis based on liver biopsy and/or clinical, biochemical, and imaging criteria
  • Child Pugh score from A5 to B7
  • Control group participants must have normal serum ALT and AST levels
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Kidney failure
  • Pregnancy
  • Recent surgery such as bowel resection or gastric bypass operation
  • Advanced cardiac or pulmonary disease
  • Thyroid disease and coagulopathy (INR >1.4 and platelet count <80,000/ml)
