Study of Nurse-Led Individual and Family Support Motivational Interviewing to Improve Blood Pressure Control in Adults with Hypertension

Hypertension is a major risk factor for heart and blood vessel diseases. Managing it effectively requires taking medication as prescribed, making lifestyle changes, regularly checking blood pressure, and practicing self-care. This trial evaluates the effects of nurse-led motivational interviewing, both individual and family-involved, on controlling blood pressure in adults with hypertension. It is a randomized controlled trial with three groups, including usual care and two intervention groups. Participants in the study are divided into three groups one receiving usual hypertension care plus an information brochure, one receiving individual motivational interviewing sessions led by a nurse for six weeks, and one receiving the same sessions with a family member involved to support management. The motivational interviewing covers topics like hypertension knowledge, medication adherence, lifestyle changes, stress management, and goal setting. The family member supports activities such as medication adherence and home blood pressure monitoring. Participants will be assessed at the start, after six weeks, and again at 18 weeks. Measurements include systolic and diastolic blood pressure, knowledge about hypertension, adherence to treatment, and confidence in managing hypertension. The study monitors intervention delivery and aims to understand how these counseling approaches impact blood pressure control and self-management over time.
