Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Meet diagnostic criteria for dementia as described in DSM-IV-R
- Diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease using criteria from NINCDS-ADRDA or NIA-AA
You will not qualify if you...
- History of stroke and focal neurological signs, with imaging showing small cerebral vascular disease (Fazekas score 652)
- Other neurological disorders causing brain dysfunction (e.g., depression, brain tumors, Parkinson's disease, metabolic encephalopathy, encephalitis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, brain trauma, normal pressure hydrocephalus)
- Systemic diseases causing cognitive impairment (e.g., liver insufficiency, renal insufficiency, thyroid dysfunction, severe anemia, folic acid or vitamin B12 deficiency, syphilis, HIV infection, alcohol and drug abuse)
- Mental and neurological retardation
- Other diseases known to cause cognitive impairment
