Observational Study to Evaluate Treatments and Outcomes for Adults with Primary Brain Tumors Using 2021 WHO and cIMPACT-NOW Classifications

Researchers are evaluating the impact of the new 2021 WHO classification, based on cIMPACT-NOW recommendations, on grouping patients with primary brain tumors. This study aims to determine if the new classification creates more consistent patient groups than the previous 2016 system and to develop provisional treatment guidelines based on the experiences of EORTC investigators. The study focuses on various newly defined tumor entities and how current treatments may work for these groups. This is an observational study with no interventions or treatments assigned by the study team. It includes multiple cohorts of patients with different types of primary brain tumors such as gliomas, embryonal tumors, meningiomas, and others. The study collects clinical data, imaging, and tissue samples to analyze patient characteristics, treatments, and outcomes according to both the 2016 and 2021 WHO classifications. Participants will be followed for up to 10 years, with data collected at enrollment and every six months during follow-up. Assessments include tumor responses, progression-free survival, overall survival, patient and disease characteristics, and neuroimaging features at diagnosis and progression. The study also aims to generate reference datasets to support future clinical trials. There is no treatment involved, and patient monitoring focuses on collecting information to better understand brain tumor classification and outcomes.
