What this Trial Is About
Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a serious condition with high rates of occurrence and disability, requiring quick recognition and treatment. Residents in neurology often face challenges in managing AIS due to limited knowledge and difficulty applying stroke management principles in clinical settings. This study evaluates whether structured off-script diagnosis and differential diagnosis (D&D) training can improve residents' knowledge and competence in AIS management in China. The study is a single-center, randomized, open-label trial involving 22 neurology residents divided into two groups: one receiving off-script D&D training within 72 hours after randomization and the other receiving no intervention. The training covers epidemiology, stroke classification, vascular mechanisms, differential diagnosis, acute management, patient education, and research gaps, delivered without prepared texts in a timed presentation. The control group does not receive this training. Participants will have their AIS knowledge assessed 30 days after randomization using the modified Acute Stroke Management Questionnaire (mASMaQ). Additional evaluations include general stroke knowledge, hyperacute stroke management, and advanced stroke management. The study monitors residents' learning progress and the effectiveness of the training in enhancing stroke management skills over this period.
