Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Patients aged 20 to 65 years
- ASA class 1 or 2
- Undergoing elective surgery in supine or lithotomy position
- No planned position changes during surgery lasting more than 90 minutes
You will not qualify if you...
- Anatomical abnormalities of the upper airway
- Risks of a difficult airway
- Abnormal central anatomical structures on chest X-ray (airway, diaphragm, or spine)
- History of disease or surgery on the stomach or esophagus
- Risks of bleeding or coagulopathy on preoperative lab results
- Obesity with BMI over 30
- Contraindication to esophageal stethoscope insertion
- Lack of standing chest PA X-ray before surgery
- Position changes during surgery
- Open chest surgery
