Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Adults aged 18 to 65 years
  • Severe knee osteoarthritis
  • Body mass index (BMI) between 45 and 60
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Previous total replacement of the same knee
  • Need for bilateral total knee replacement
  • Knee pain rated higher than 60 mm on a 100-mm visual-analogue scale during the previous week
  • Prior bariatric or complex foregut surgery
  • Significant cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal, liver, gastrointestinal, or psychiatric disorders
  • Pregnancy
  • Malignancy within the last 5 years
  • Anemia
  • Coagulopathy requiring anti-coagulation therapy
