Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 18 years or older
- First-time ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation
- Persistent AF lasting 7 days to less than 3 years, including episodes needing cardioversion after 7 days
- Symptomatic AF not controlled by at least one antiarrhythmic drug
- At least one documented episode of persistent AF in the last 2 years confirmed by ECG, Holter monitoring, loop recorder, telemetry, transtelephonic monitoring, or implantable device
- Ability and willingness to provide written informed consent
- Willingness to comply with all study follow-up requirements
You will not qualify if you...
- Paroxysmal AF with episodes lasting less than 7 days or needing cardioversion within 7 days
- Long-standing persistent AF lasting more than 3 years continuously
- No prior attempt at cardioversion or maintaining normal heart rhythm
- Contraindications to systemic anticoagulation
- Pregnancy
- Advanced kidney or liver failure
- Severe valvular heart disease or cyanotic congenital heart disease
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
