What this Trial Is About

The trial investigates the outcomes of different male circumcision techniques in boys with intact prepuce, aiming to evaluate and compare their effectiveness, safety, clinical results, cosmetic appearance, and complication rates. This prospective comparative cohort study is conducted at the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Sohag University Hospital and lasts six months from December 2024 to June 2025. The study focuses on boys below 5 years of age undergoing routine or medically indicated circumcision. Participants are divided into six groups based on the circumcision method used: conventional dissection, bone cutting forceps, electro-cauterization assisted, thermal cauterization assisted, Gomco clamp, and Plastibell device techniques. Each procedure involves specific steps such as dorsal slit, foreskin excision, hemostasis, suturing, or device placement with string ligation, followed by dressing application. The trial carefully compares these methods to assess differences in outcomes. During the study, researchers monitor participants for bleeding within one day after circumcision as the primary outcome. They also evaluate safety, clinical progress, and cosmetic results over time. The trial excludes boys with ambiguous genitalia, congenital penile anomalies, balanitis, bleeding disorders, or those undergoing redo-circumcision. Participation involves close observation and follow-up to document any complications or differences between the techniques.
