Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Stone formers aged 18 to 70 years with a history of at least one calcium-based kidney stone
- Non-stone formers aged 18 to 70 years with no history of kidney stones
- Non-stone formers must have a 24-hour urine oxalate level within normal limits (less than 50 mg/day)
You will not qualify if you...
- History of kidney stones primarily made of uric acid, cysteine, or struvite
- History of severe acid-base abnormalities
- Urine citrate levels less than 100 mg/day or greater than 1500 mg/day
- Inability to stop diuretic medication or alkali supplementation during the study period
- Extreme urine citrate levels in non-stone formers or stone-formers
