Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 21 years or older
- Diagnosis of end stage kidney disease and receiving hemodialysis
- Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-Blind) adjusted score of 18 or higher
- Pain lasting 3 months or more with self-reported intensity of 4 or higher in the past week
- Speaks English or Spanish
- Medically stable and unlikely to have major illness or treatment changes in next 3 months
- Able to provide written informed consent
- Caregivers aged 21 or older who serve as primary caregiver and speak English or Spanish
You will not qualify if you...
- Active medical or major psychiatric illnesses impacting pain or study participation
- History of head trauma, seizure disorder, brain surgery, stroke, or cancer affecting the head
- Metal implants in the head or compromised skin where electrodes will be placed
- Use of another neurostimulation device such as spinal cord stimulator or implanted defibrillator
- Unable to respond to brief questionnaires and rating scales
- Does not tolerate tDCS at skin test during training
- Does not provide informed consent
- Does not speak English or Spanish
