Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • For Parkinson's disease patients: men or women aged 50 to 75 years
  • Clinical diagnosis of Parkinson's disease based on MDS criteria
  • Must have at least two symptoms among static tremor, bradykinesia, or stiffness, including static tremor or bradykinesia; or asymmetrical resting tremor or bradykinesia
  • Able to provide informed consent
  • For healthy volunteers: age (±2 years) and sex-matched to Parkinson's disease patients
  • Able to provide informed consent
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • For Parkinson's disease patients: atypical or secondary parkinsonism caused by medications or other diseases
  • Clinically diagnosed dementia
  • Previous MRI showing significant neurological disorders
  • Serious illness such as heart failure or malignancy
  • Smoking more than 15 cigarettes a day or history of alcohol or drug addiction
  • Inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases
  • Chronic diseases affecting gut microorganisms like diabetes, cirrhosis, or cardiovascular disease
  • Blood or autoimmune disease or use of immunosuppressants in past 3 months
  • Antibiotic use within 3 months before sample collection
  • Chronic constipation
  • For healthy volunteers: first-degree relative with Parkinson's disease
  • Current or past significant neurological disorders
  • Previous MRI showing significant neurological disorders
  • Use of dopamine blockers, metoclopramide, or riserpine in past 6 months
  • Inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases
  • Smoking more than 15 cigarettes a day or history of alcohol or drug addiction
  • Chronic diseases affecting gut microorganisms
  • Blood or autoimmune disease or use of immunosuppressants in past 3 months
  • Antibiotic use within 3 months before sample collection
  • Chronic constipation
  • Participation in other clinical trials
