Evaluating PEPPI Software to Enhance Pharmacist-Provided HIV Prevention Services Including PEP and PrEP

What this Trial Is About

This trial evaluates the use of the PEPPI software to improve pharmacist-provided HIV prevention services, specifically post-exposure prophylaxis PEP and pre-exposure prophylaxis PrEP. It aims to find out if the software can make it easier for pharmacists to deliver these services and for patients to access them. The study compares service delivery and patient access with and without the software in community pharmacies. The study involves 10 community pharmacies that first provide PEPPrEP services as usual control period. Then, the pharmacies introduce the PEPPI software in two phases the initial minimally viable product MVP version followed by an enhanced version. Pharmacists use the software to replace previous paper or electronic processes for providing PEPPrEP services during the intervention periods. Participants include pharmacists who provide PEPPrEP services using the software and patients who receive these services at participating pharmacies. Researchers measure outcomes related to service implementation such as number of pharmacists and staff involved, payment methods like cash or insurance billing, and implementation outcomes up to 12 months. They also assess patient access to care during this time. The study runs from August 2026 to September 2028.
