Comparing Periodontal Health in Cigarette, E-Cigarette, and Narghile Smokers Among Students at Al-Hawash Private University

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to compare how traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and narghile hookah smoking affect periodontal health among students at Al-Hawash Private University. Despite growing awareness of smoking dangers, especially among young people attracted by safer alternatives, no previous study has directly compared the impact of these three smoking types on gum and teeth health in one group. The study observes groups of cigarette smokers, e-cigarette smokers, and narghile smokers, each with specific daily use habits for at least one year. It is a non-interventional observational study where participants are evaluated without receiving any treatment, focusing on their current smoking habits and periodontal condition. Participants will undergo assessments measuring plaque levels, gum inflammation, pocket depths in gums, attachment loss, bleeding on probing, tooth mobility, gum recession, and furcation involvement at enrollment. These measurements help researchers understand different effects of each smoking type on periodontal tissues. The study runs from June 2025 until August 2026.
