Researchers are studying the effects of neoadjuvant radiotherapy on the occurrence of complications during and after surgery in patients with locally advanced colorectal cancer. This observational study aims to find out if receiving radiotherapy before surgery changes the risk of problems such as infections, wound issues, or the need for additional operations. The study collects detailed patient information including health status using the Clinical Frailty Scale and records surgical complications with established classifications. Participants are grouped based on whether they had neoadjuvant radiotherapy before their colorectal cancer surgery or not. Data is gathered from medical records at the Oncology Institute of Vojvodina. The study assesses complications that occur during surgery and up to 15 days after surgery, using tools like the ClassIntra system for intraoperative events, Clavien-Dindo for postoperative complications, and the HARM score to evaluate hospital stay, readmissions, and mortality. Throughout the hospital stay, researchers monitor the occurrence and types of perioperative complications including infections, wound healing problems, and bowel issues. They also track length of hospital and intensive care unit stays, use of antibiotics, and the need for reoperations. This comprehensive data collection helps evaluate the safety and impact of neoadjuvant radiotherapy on patient recovery after colorectal cancer surgery.
