Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Age 65 years or older
  • Scheduled for non-cardiac surgery expected to last more than 2 hours
  • Planned general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation
  • ASA classification I to IV
  • Intermediate to high risk for respiratory complications based on ARISCAT score
  • Informed consent obtained
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Emergency surgery
  • Current pneumonia before surgery
  • Allergy to chlorhexidine
  • Severe liver or kidney problems
  • Unable to eat by mouth
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Taking immunosuppressant or immunoregulatory medications
  • Other contraindications to immunonutrition supplementation
  • Expected immunonutrition treatment duration less than 3 days
