Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 65 years or older
- Scheduled for non-cardiac surgery expected to last more than 2 hours
- Planned general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation
- ASA classification I to IV
- Intermediate to high risk for respiratory complications based on ARISCAT score
- Informed consent obtained
You will not qualify if you...
- Emergency surgery
- Current pneumonia before surgery
- Allergy to chlorhexidine
- Severe liver or kidney problems
- Unable to eat by mouth
- Autoimmune diseases
- Taking immunosuppressant or immunoregulatory medications
- Other contraindications to immunonutrition supplementation
- Expected immunonutrition treatment duration less than 3 days
