Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Female, 18 years of age or older
- Able to speak and read English
- Newly diagnosed with primary breast cancer
- Planning to receive primary surgical treatment for breast cancer
- Undergoing lumpectomy with or without autologous reconstruction, with or without contralateral surgery for symmetry, with or without intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT), or simple mastectomy without reconstruction
- Diagnosed with breast cancer or ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)
You will not qualify if you...
- Recurrent breast cancer
- Current or history of major psychiatric diagnosis
- Receiving neo-adjuvant chemotherapy
- Undergoing modified radical mastectomy or reconstruction
- Regular meditation practice more than twice weekly in the past 12 months
- Unwilling or unable to complete study materials or comply with study visits
- No access to email or a mobile phone
- Surgery planned outside of Hoag
- Narcotic dependence defined as regular weekly narcotic use before cancer diagnosis
- Re-excision after lumpectomy (excluded from final analysis and study)
