Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Healthy adults aged 18 to 75 years undergoing planned clinical procedures at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
You will not qualify if you...
- Body mass index (BMI) of 40 kg/m2 or higher
- History of local or systemic infection with fever or need for antibiotics within 4 weeks
- Diagnosed diabetes or hemoglobin A1c of 6.5% or higher
- Use of oral or injectable corticosteroids or other insulin resistance medications within 6 weeks
- Chronic kidney disease stage 4 or 5, including end-stage renal disease
- Liver disease with elevated liver enzymes, low albumin, or high bilirubin
- Active cancer except certain skin cancers
- Bleeding disorders or low platelet count below 50,000
- Current addiction to alcohol or substances
- Mental incapacity, unwillingness, or language barriers preventing understanding or cooperation
- Use of investigational drugs within 30 days prior to screening
- Pregnancy, children, prisoners, institutionalized, or other vulnerable populations are not eligible
- Children are excluded because the study focuses on adult brown adipose tissue
