Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- BMI between 27 and 29.9 or between 30 and 39.9
- Plasmatic glucose less than 100 mg/dl or between 100 and 125 mg/dl
- Glycosylated hemoglobin less than 5.7 or between 5.7 and 6.4
- LDL cholesterol greater than 115 mg/dL
- Serum biochemical, hematological parameters and fat-soluble vitamins within normal ranges
You will not qualify if you...
- Currently taking cholesterol-lowering drugs
- Smoking
- Alcohol consumption above 30 g/day
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- Any infection, serious illness, or condition affecting plant sterol absorption such as malabsorption, celiac disease, allergies, or food intolerances
- Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract
- Treatment with antibiotics, hormones, or anabolic agents
- Use of foods or supplements enriched with plant sterols
- Following specialist weight loss diets, vegan, or vegetarian diet
