Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Referral for diagnostic pleural procedure
- Age 18 years or older
- Suspected malignant pleural effusion based on imaging (CT or PET) or cancer with associated effusion
You will not qualify if you...
- Unable to provide informed consent
- Requires urgent/emergent drainage
- Known malignant pleural effusion
- Suspected transudative, infectious, or inflammatory pleural effusion
- Prior inconclusive or non-diagnostic thoracentesis or pleuroscopy
- Clinical team deems patient more suitable for VATS biopsy
- Terminal illness where diagnosis will not change management or patient unlikely to receive cancer treatment due to comorbidities
- Pregnancy
