Age: 50Years +
All Genders

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Age 50 years or older
  • Body mass index (BMI) 40 kg/m2 or less
  • Self-identify as Black, including African American
  • Knee pain rating of 4 or higher on a 0 to 10 scale over the past week
  • Score of 5 or more on the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) or Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item Scale (GAD-7)
  • Able to speak and understand English well enough to participate and consent
  • Available for the full study duration
  • Able to attend remote sessions via video or phone
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Knee, hip, or ankle replacement surgery
  • Knee injection with corticosteroids or hyaluronic acid within the last 3 months
  • Knee surgery within the past 6 months
  • Receiving or received physical therapy for knee osteoarthritis within the past 3 months
  • Receiving or received mental health therapy (excluding medications) within the past 3 months
  • Planning to start physical therapy for joint or low back pain in the next 3 months
  • Planning to start any mental health therapy (excluding medications) within the next month
  • Having systemic inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis
  • Having neurological conditions like stroke or Parkinson's disease
  • Having medical reasons that prevent starting an exercise program
  • Suspected substance abuse
  • Unable to provide informed consent
  • Pregnant (self-reported)
  • Participating in another clinical trial for joint or muscle pain
  • Planning major surgery in the next 6 months
  • Having severe mental health symptoms such as active suicidality, bipolar disorder, mania, psychosis, or schizophrenia
  • Currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation for cancer (except non-melanoma skin cancer)
