What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effects of two different cryotherapy methods on postoperative swelling and pain after primary total knee arthroplasty TKA. The study aims to compare cuff cooling cryotherapy with conventional ice pack treatment to determine potential differences in reducing swelling and pain following knee replacement surgery. This interventional study does not use randomization or masking and is led by Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Halder. Participants will receive one of two treatments after surgery either cryo cuff cooling or conventional ice pack cooling applied postoperatively. The study groups include patients treated with the cryo cuff device and those treated with standard ice packs. The research will observe these treatments over a 4-week period following enrollment and surgery. During the study, participants will be examined before and after surgery according to a set examination and data collection plan. They will document their pain using a numeric rating scale NRS and report feelings of tightness at the 4-week mark. Researchers will measure postoperative swelling and pain from enrollment up to 4 weeks after surgery, along with the demand for painkillers. The total duration of participation includes follow-up for these outcomes over the 4 weeks after surgery.
