Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 45 years or older
- Undergoing major noncardiac surgery lasting at least 2 hours with an expected hospital stay of 2 days or more
- History of at least one cardiovascular disease such as coronary artery disease, stroke, congestive heart failure, or peripheral arterial disease
- Or presence of at least two cardiovascular risk factors including hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, smoking within the past 2 years, age 65 or older, high cholesterol, history of transient ischemic attack, or planned high-risk surgery like intrathoracic, intraperitoneal, or major vascular surgery
You will not qualify if you...
- History of acute cardiovascular events within 30 days before surgery
- American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status of 5 or higher
- Previously enrolled in this study
- Unable to understand or sign informed consent
