Factors Influencing Return to Work After a First Stroke Treated at Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital from 2020 to 2024

Stroke is a leading cause of motor disability and cognitive impairment worldwide, affecting many individuals of working age, especially in France where about 31% of new cases impact this group. This research aims to identify factors that influence returning to work after a first ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, focusing on both measurable aspects like stroke severity and less studied elements such as personal motivation and social support. The study also seeks to understand regional vocational pathways and barriers to sustained employment after stroke. This observational study involves patients treated for a first stroke at Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital between January 2020 and March 2024. It includes those under 64 years old who had an employment contract at the stroke time. The study does not involve treatments but collects detailed information on patients work reintegration experiences and related factors through comprehensive assessments. Participants will be evaluated on various outcomes including the rate of return to work, quality of life, anxiety and depression levels, fatigue severity, and job retention. Data are gathered from medical records and telephone questionnaires. The study focuses on identifying predictors and challenges for long-term vocational reintegration, with all assessments occurring at inclusion. This ongoing observation will help inform tailored rehabilitation and reintegration strategies for stroke survivors.
