Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Ambulatory male and female residents aged 65 and older with osteoporosis or low bone mass at risk for fracture
  • Resident of an institution such as a nursing home, assisted living facility, or senior community
  • Diagnosis of osteoporosis by spine, hip or forearm BMD T-score of -2.5 or less, or previous adult fragility spine or hip fracture
  • Or osteopenia with treatment indication based on FRAX 10-year major fracture risk of 20% or higher or hip fracture risk of 3% or higher using femoral neck BMD
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Residents with subacute illnesses or life expectancy less than 1 year
  • Currently on related osteoporosis therapy including bisphosphonates, Denosumab, teriparatide, abaloparatide, or romosozumab
  • Bisphosphonate use for more than 1 year during the previous 2 years
  • History of low blood calcium or contraindication to treatment
  • Use of systemic glucocorticoids that may reduce muscle strength
  • Vitamin D levels below 25 ng/mL unless treated to 25 ng/mL or higher
  • Suggested to stop calcitonin due to cancer concerns
