Prevalence of Treponema Parvum in Subgingival Microbiome of Patients With Periodontitis A Case-Control Study

Researchers are studying the presence of the bacterium Treponema parvum in the mouths of adults with healthy gums and those with periodontitis, a gum disease. The study aims to understand how this bacterium relates to clinical signs of gum disease by comparing its levels in different participants. This observational study is conducted by the University of Baghdad and focuses on analyzing bacterial presence rather than testing treatments. Participants will have samples of plaque collected from beneath their gums using sterile paper points. These samples will then be analyzed using a technique called quantitative polymerase chain reaction qPCR to detect and measure the amount of T. parvum in the dental biofilm. The study includes groups with generalized periodontitis and those with healthy gum tissue for comparison. During the study, participants will provide subgingival plaque samples at enrollment for analysis. Researchers will measure the relative abundance of T. parvum in these samples and observe its association with periodontal health or disease. The study includes adults aged 30 years and older who meet the dental health criteria, and participation involves evaluations related to plaque sampling without treatment interventions.
