The goal of this clinical trial is to compare a standard adolescent-only approach to substance use screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment to a in primary care settings. Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Youth aged 12-17 years with a primary caregiver attending the primary care appointment
  • Youth and caregiver are fluent in English or Spanish
  • Youth and caregiver can use audio-assisted informed consent and operate a hand-held tablet independently
  • Youth and caregiver complete routine site alcohol and other drug risk screening questions during primary care visit intake

You will not qualify if you...

History of severe allergic reactions to study medication Currently pregnant or breastfeeding Recent participation in another clinical trial within the last 30 days Presence of uncontrolled medical conditions that could affect safety
