Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Patients 18 years of age or older with a new or existing diagnosis of cancer
- Central venous catheter (CVC) inserted within the last 72 hours
You will not qualify if you...
- Central venous catheter (CVC) in place for more than 72 hours
- Need for anticoagulation for other conditions
- Use of dual antiplatelet therapy
- Major bleeding event in the last 4 weeks
- Use of strong inhibitors of CYP 3A4 and P-gp (e.g., cobicistat, ketoconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, ritonavir)
- Known pregnancy or plans to become pregnant in next 3 months
- Severe kidney failure with creatinine clearance below 30 mL/min in past 3 months
- Severe liver disease in past 3 months
- Known low platelet count (platelets less than 50 x 10^9/L) in past 3 months
- Known allergy to rivaroxaban
- Life expectancy less than 3 months
- History of conditions increasing bleeding risk including recent cerebral infarction, active peptic ulcer with recent bleeding, or bleeding disorders
- Primary skin cancer diagnosis of basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma only
- Refusal or inability to provide consent
