Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Older than 18 years
  • Fluent or native Portuguese language speaker
  • Continuous or intermittent low back pain for at least three months
  • Low back pain with or without irradiation to the gluteal region indicating facet syndrome (pain worsened by spine extension, bending toward the affected side, prolonged sitting, or walking up steps)
  • Failure of traditional treatments including physical or drug therapy
  • Understand the purpose of the study
  • Voluntarily provide informed consent and complete questionnaires before infiltration and during follow-up
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Younger than 18 years old
  • Symptomatic lumbar spinal stenosis with claudication or radiculopathy
  • Evidence of radiculopathy
  • Active rheumatologic diseases
  • Congenital or acquired lumbar spine deformities
  • Fracture or sequelae of lumbar spine fracture from trauma, pathology, or osteoporosis
  • Previous lumbar spine surgery
  • MRI scans of limited quality or incomplete sequences
  • Systemic steroid treatment less than one month before infiltration
  • Previous infiltration with steroids within last six months
  • Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus
  • Allergy to anesthetics or adverse reaction to steroids
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Unable to be contacted by phone during follow-up
