What this Trial Is About
Several surrogate biomarkers including natriuretic peptide(NP), and growth differentiation factor-15(GDF-15) and ST2 has prognostic significance in heart failure(HF), and reductions in its value may predict clinical improvement. However, there are limited data regarding the prognostic value of these biomarkers during short-term follow-up after discharge in acute decompensated heart failure. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the prognostic value of short-term follow-up surrogate biomarkers for predicting prognosis of hospitalized patients with acute decompensated heart failure.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Diagnosis of heart failure with either reduced ejection fraction (EF < 40%) and symptoms/signs of heart failure
- Or diagnosis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (EF 64 40%) including symptoms/signs of heart failure
- Elevated natriuretic peptide levels (BNP > 100 pg/ml and/or NT-proBNP > 300 pg/ml) for preserved EF patients
- Presence of structural heart disease (left atrial volume index 64 34 mL/m2, left atrial dimension 64 50 mm, or posterior/septal wall thickness 64 11 mm) for preserved EF patients
You will not qualify if you...
- Severe condition limiting life expectancy to less than 3 months
- Not willing or unable to be contacted by telephone at the end of the study
